Objectives of the Trust
The Rhino Survival Trust has been conceived to partner with key investors and utilize donations, which will be applied to the following –
“The Ark” Project
The Rhino Survival Trust’s primary objective is to acquire an existing wildlife ranch in South Africa and establish it as a globally recognized wildlife sanctuary for rhinos. Through our “Operation Rhino”, we aim to grow the current black and white rhino populations to a sustainable number within 5 years, enabling us to relocate rhinos to other reserves and private rhino owners in southern Africa, to re-populate traditional ranges where they once occurred. This project incorporates a far-reaching solution that encompasses conservation, education, employment creation, community upliftment and eco-tourism.
Other Activities
The Trust may also support activities which –
- Raise awareness and provide information to key decision-makers and the public on pertinent issues on the survival of rhino;
- Co-operate with and support other organisations as appropriate which are working to achieve similar objectives to those of this Trust;
- Work with local institutions to establish a central DNA profile of each rhino (RhODIS) to serve as burden of proof in court cases and genetic reference against inbreeding; and to potentially serve as proof that the utilisation of rhino horn (which regrows at a rate of 8-10cm each year and can be harvested without harming the rhino) and trade therein, can be managed in an accountable manner through tracing each horn to its origin;
- Further the purposes and longer term objectives of the Trust.
